terms of service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the Aroha mobile application and the arohadating.net website (together, the "Service"), operated by Aroha ("we", "us"). By creating an account or using the Service you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the Service.

1. who can use aroha

• You must be 18 years or older to use the Service.
• You must not have been previously removed from the Service for violating these Terms or our community standards.
• You may only create one account, for yourself, using accurate information.

2. your account

You sign in with your phone number and/or email. You're responsible for keeping your login credentials secure and for all activity under your account. Tell us immediately at support@arohadating.net if you believe your account has been compromised.

3. your content

You own the content you post (photos, bio, messages, date plans). By posting it you give us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, display, and distribute it within the Service so the app can work (for example, showing your profile to nearby members). This licence ends when your content or account is deleted, except where retention is required by law.

You agree not to post content that is unlawful, harassing, hateful, sexually explicit, misleading (including impersonation or photos that aren't you), commercial spam, or that infringes anyone's rights.

4. community conduct

• Treat people with respect — harassment, hate speech, and threats lead to removal.
• No soliciting money, advertising, or off-platform commercial activity.
• No scraping, automation, or attempts to access other members' data.
• Report bad behaviour from any profile or chat — reports are reviewed and acted on.

5. safety

Aroha includes safety features (selfie verification, a safety circle that can receive SMS alerts, reporting and blocking), but we cannot guarantee anyone's conduct, online or offline. You are solely responsible for your interactions with other members. Always use judgment when meeting someone new — see our safety tips. In an emergency, contact your local emergency services first.

6. subscriptions & billing

• Aroha offers an optional paid tier ("premium") as an auto-renewing subscription (weekly or monthly), billed through Google Play or the Apple App Store — never by us directly.
• Subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled in your app store account settings, at least 24 hours before the current period ends.
• Refunds are handled by the app stores under their policies.
• Prices may change; we'll notify you before a change affects an active subscription.

7. termination

You can delete your account anytime in Settings → delete account, which removes your profile, photos, chats, and plans from the Service. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms, harm other members, or break the law — with or without notice. Sections that by nature should survive termination (3, 8, 9, 10) survive.

8. disclaimers

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied — including fitness for a particular purpose, or that you will meet someone, match, or have any particular outcome. We do not conduct criminal background checks on members.

9. limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Aroha will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or loss of data, arising from your use of the Service. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the greater of USD $100 or the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim.

10. governing law & disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, USA, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Disputes will be resolved in the courts located in California, unless applicable law gives you the right to a different venue.

11. changes to these terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be announced in the app or by email, and the "last updated" date above always reflects the current version. Continuing to use the Service after changes take effect means you accept them.
